The Koloa Course in Rain, Wind and After the Hurricane

Does the zipline tour at Koloa run in the rain? What happens in high wind or low cloud, what a weather cancellation means for your booking, and the course's dates after Hurricane Lowell.

Updated November 2026

Rain does not stop the Koloa course: Koloa Zipline usually zips in the rain, and may hold or move a tour only for high winds or low visibility (koloazipline.com, November 2026). After Hurricane Lowell in September 2026 it ran a shorter 4-line tour until 31 October and reopened the full 8-line course on 3 November 2026. When we read the listings in November 2026, the first dates on sale were from 10 November.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, so you can book for the day you want and still change your mind if the forecast turns.

Rain

Illustration. Light rain on the line: the course runs in it.

“Rain or shine we still zipline” is printed on Koloa Zipline’s tour page, and its FAQ says the same: the tour typically runs in the rain. Dress for sun and showers both: a T-shirt with a light jacket, closed-toe shoes you do not mind getting muddy, and bug spray, because mosquitoes come out most on cloudy days and after rain. What to wear has the full list.

Wind and low cloud

High wind and low visibility are the conditions that can hold a tour or move it to another time (koloazipline.com, November 2026). The weather also decides who rides tandem: depending on the conditions, smaller and lighter riders, usually younger children, may be clipped to a partner or a guide so they reach the far platform.

If the tour is cancelled for weather, what happens to your money depends on where you booked. On Viator, a tour cancelled for poor weather, or for too few travellers, comes with the offer of another date or a full refund. On GetYourGuide, the cancellation terms are shown before you pay, and free cancellation runs up to 24 hours before the start. Booked direct, Koloa Zipline does not run a tour with fewer than 5 guests and may move you to the nearest time slot or refund you.

Morning or afternoon

The Viator schedule for November 2026 had starts from 7:45 am to the early afternoon, Monday to Saturday. No time of day is promised to be drier. The first part of the course is under the trees and the second in open sun (koloazipline.com, November 2026), so on a clear afternoon the sunscreen matters more.

After Hurricane Lowell

Hurricane Lowell struck Kauai in September 2026. The County of Kauai’s update of 22 October 2026 says a federal Major Disaster Declaration was approved on 7 October and points visitors to KauaiRecovers.org for the island’s recovery news.

For the zipline course, the dated facts are these (Koloa Zipline’s home page, November 2026):

  • The 4-line Hurricane Recovery Tour ended on Saturday 31 October 2026.
  • The 8-line course reopened on 3 November 2026.
  • Both Viator and GetYourGuide showed dates from 10 November 2026 when we read them.

Nothing here says what the rest of the island looks like on your dates; check KauaiRecovers.org and the county’s own updates before you travel. Getting to the base has the drive to Koloa.
