Ziplining on Kauai with Kids: the Koloa Course

Children on the 8-line zipline tour at Koloa: the minimum age of 7, tandem rides for light riders, who must ride with them, what a child pays and how to prepare.

Updated November 2026

Children can ride the Koloa course from age 7, with a parent or guardian on the tour. Light children may be clipped to a partner or a guide and ride tandem, and a tandem pair can weigh up to 250 lbs, so a parent can ride with a child. A child pays the same as an adult. For a family whose youngest is 7 or older, this is the course to book.

Under 7, the answer is no on all three. If the youngest in your group is 5 or 6, plan a day that does not hinge on the zipline.

Tandem rides

Illustration. Tandem: two riders on the cable, tethered to each other.

Depending on the weather, smaller and lighter riders may be required to ride tandem. Both riders are clipped to the cable as normal and tethered to each other, so the lighter one makes it across. It happens most with younger children, and the pair can weigh up to 250 lbs together, which lets a parent ride with a child or two children ride together; for some light riders a guide rides along instead (koloazipline.com, November 2026). Tandem rides for children are part of the tour, at no extra charge.

You do not choose tandem in advance: it is decided on the day by weight and wind.

What a child pays

Children aged 7 to 17 pay the adult price: from US$169.63 on Viator (checked November 2026) and from US$169 on GetYourGuide (checked November 2026), where two riders came to US$338.86 on the dates we read. There is no family ticket. The price guide sets the three ways to book side by side.

Getting a child ready

  • Shoes: closed-toe, with grip. No sandals. What to wear has the rest.
  • The briefing: the safety briefing before the first line, called Ground School on GetYourGuide, is aimed at beginners.
  • Snacks: included on the course.
  • Health: the same rules as for adults: no back or heart problems, no recent surgery, and not for anyone afraid of heights. Talk it through with your child before the day.

Age, weight and health limits has every rule and who sets it.
